Las Vegas Kitchen Cabinets –Blog – A Working Kitchen

If you are like most people, you probably take your kitchen for granted. It’s a place where you can go to get something to eat. You can use the table for work projects or for the kids to complete their homework. You can also use the kitchen to prepare the family meal. It is this last reason that is actually responsible for the kitchen’s existence! Keeping that in mind is of paramount importance when you decide to renovate with new kitchen cabinets.

The Kitchen’s Primary Functions: Food Prep, Cooking, Cleanup, and Storage

Whether you have the skills of a gourmet chef or your best dish comes out of a box, the kitchen should be designed to fulfill each of its primary reasons for being in existence in your home. This means that your kitchen needs to provide a space to prepare your food, cook it, clean up after you have finished cooking and eating, and store all necessary paraphernalia including dishes, glasses, pots, pans, silverware, and so on.

What does all of this mean for the average homeowner? Typically, the kitchen has already been designed with a space to prep your meal (countertops or island), an area for cooking (stove, oven, and microwave), a location for cleanup (the sink), and a place to store all of your cooking essentials including food (refrigerator) and utensils (cabinets).

Planning Your Kitchen Cabinetry

Your cooking style is more than likely to determine just how many kitchen cabinets you need (wall, tall, and base) to accommodate all of your necessary cooking paraphernalia and ingredients. If your cooking style is quite basic and you spend more nights eating out than dining in each week, you only need the barest minimum of cabinetry in order to be able to properly store all of your prepping/cooking/eating possessions.

On the other hand, if you tend to lean toward extravagant meals, then your kitchen cabinet needs are going to be quite a bit more grandiose. Choose your cabinet styles accordingly. For example, you may want to consider a lazy-Susan style for the corner cabinet to accommodate your search for necessary cooking supplies, be they ingredients or pans.
